DID YOU KNOW THAT TRAUMA IS STORED IN YOUR BODY?

Trauma doesn't have to be this big event. It could be, but more often than not what most people have experienced is emotional neglect, emotionally unavailable parents who perhaps were addicted, mentally suffering or maybe they were just checked out. Or maybe you got attention when you got A's or were good at sports. Perhaps you knew to please and appease to avoid punishment.

Your environment was however stressful for your little developing brain and body and it was too much so your nervous system went into protection mode. You couldn't run away or fight back so you pleased and attuned to their emotional mood. "Walking on Eggshells" is a term I hear a lot from clients.

This is what carries into every nook and corner of our adult lives regardless of if we are aware of it or not. It shows up in relationships, work friendships with our own children. We have a society of traumatized individuals and leaders. It's time to stop hiding in shame. I'm here for it! Are you with me?

Your body went into survival mode. This is the fight/flight/freeze response. You might recognize yourself as having one or the other or all when you get triggered.

Talk therapy alone is no longer enough

Mindset and cognitive processes are not enough to reach the part of the brain where trauma is stored.

Trauma doesn't go away by ignoring it. It will leak out in ways that affect your life such as:

    • Anger/rage episodes
    • Anxiety, panic, depression
    • Addictions including being busy all of the time
    • Chronic over thinking
    • cPTSD/PTSD
    • Unable to be present- always thinking about the past or the future
    • Dysfunctional relationships and even abuse

It can also show up as:

    • Burnout and chronic stress
    • Perfectionism
    • High achieving
    • The "I'm not good enough" Syndrome
